Johannesburg (Gauteng) - Hector Norris Park velodrome
The Hector Norris Park Stadium is situated in the South of Johannesburg
in the Central Gauteng Province. The cycling track is a concrete banked track
of 457m and stands at a height of approximately 1600m above sea level.
The track has served Central Gauteng well in its 50 years of existence with
38 of the 94 SA track records currently held here.
The track is open for training every night – the Lifestyle Performance Cycling Club
training group (literally the majority of the track riders) train every
Tuesday and Thursday 5.30 to approx 8.00pm. Lotto bikes are
provided to help beginners into the sport. Both Grenville Scullard and
Gail Heuvel run all the events at the track, along with maintaining the facility.
A generous input of Lotto funds has resulted in:
- securing the track with concrete palisading right around the facility
- having a permanent caretaker & security at the premises
- rebuilding and painting the grandstands
- upgrading the clubhouse - painted the fencing around the track, bathrooms and clubhouse
- the building of a world class BMX track
- the process of revamping the lighting on the track and BMX track
