  • Jaco Scholtz : Hi Earl,you don't have to be part of a club or even have a bike to ride on the track. Western Province cycling offers development bikes to new comers. Cycling has been on the program since the inception of the Games in Athens, Greece, in 1896. Track cycling has been on the program for all of the Games except for 1912 in Stockholm when only a road race event was held.

Where it started
Track cycling world championships have been held since 1893, even before the start of the Modern Olympic Games. Keirin racing started in November 1948 in Japan, but it is relatively new to the world of World Championship and Olympic track cycling. Koichi Nakano, Japanese keirin racer, won the world sprint championship 10 years in a row from 1977 in Venezuela to 1986 in USA.
